A 27-year-old Chicago man pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges stemming from a major hack on the private intelligence firm Strategic Forecasting (Stratfor), a company the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks later called a “private CIA” following startling claims in the firm’s stolen emails.


Prosecutors claim that Jeremy Hammond, known online as “Anarchaos,” worked with the hacktivist group “LulzSec,” which the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had infiltrated. Agents claim they were able to flip the alleged ringleader, a 28-year-old Hector Xavier Monsegur, known online as “Sabu,” into helping bring the whole group down. Hammond was one of five others indicted in March for the “LulzSec” hacks and remains the highest profile arrest in the case so far. He’s been behind bars, held without bail, in Manhattan ever since.

A website launched to raise money for Hammond’s defense calls him a “political activist,” and carries a number of allegations about Stratfor. “The hack revealed that Stratfor employs a network of paid informants that include government employees and journalists,” the site claims. “The hack also revealed that Stratfor client Dow Chemical paid for spying on activists working to seek redress for the Bhopal environmental disaster. Stratfor was also hired by the Texas Department of Public Safety to infiltrate Occupy Austin.”

For nearly five years, Cydia has served as an alternative package distribution system to the App Store, wherejailbreak developers can release their own apps, tweaks, themes, and utilities for iOS. Most often, these packages end up on Cydia because they would not have passed the strict App Store acceptance guidelines that Apple imposes. Since before the App Store even existed, Cydia has gone past the borders of Apple and delivered content that makes the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad even greater. And now, the Mac is joining the show too.

When Apple publicly released the Mac App Store for OS X Snow Leopard in January 2011, the jailbreaking community was quick to wonder when that distribution platform would get its own Cydia equivalent. Well, that day is finally here. HackStore, albeit not offering the type of tweaks and themes available for iOS, has officially gone live and offers several different apps that would normally not make their way past Apple’s approval system for the Mac App Store. A number of different applications are already bundled into the store, including TinyUmbrella, IpswDownloader, iExplorer, iFunBox, and more.

HackStore, developed by a number of different Russian programmers, is committed to keeping piracy out of its platform. The program can be downloaded for free for Mac OS X users, although the server has occasionally crashed due to the overwhelming response and demand since its release. The HackStore team says that they will work tirelessly to ensure that the server is back online, noting that some 15,000 users were already accessing the store when it first crashed. The App Store for iOS devices brings a lot features and add-ons for the ease and enhancement of its capabilities. With the technology growing so fast, the demand for more will never come to an end. Some brainers took a step ahead to provide users more powers to control their device by launching Cydia (created by Suarik) which bypassed the restrictions on iOS devices (by means of jailbreaking) to install apps to make the device more friendly and useful but those were not officially available in App Store.

Cydia includes paid as well as free apps submitted by various iOS developers and can be installed only on devices running iOS which are first required to be jailbroken. Just like App Store, Apple has also introduced Mac App Store for Mac. However Mac runs on Mac OS X, which cannot be jailbroken but still holds some sandboxing restrictions blocking developers to submit their apps in the App Store.

A hacker named Andrey Fedotov claims by pass the mac sandboxing restrictions and will launch the HackStore for Mac just like Cydia for iOS devices. Since last few months Andey is working on the projct, HackStore and by next months, he plans to release the HackStore for Mac. HackStore will be including the apps, which are not included in the Mac App Store and developers will also be able to submit their apps in the HackStore.

The HackStore will serve as a free marketplace for third party tweaks and programs to be browsed and downloaded reports cultofMac. It will include all the features of Mac App Store like top charts, categories, featured content, search, promotional banners, and so on and will be fully structured similar to cydia and App Store
